Up from Freedom by Wayne Grady

If we tie identity to race, what if we are wrong? That is the underlying premise of this book that explores race, family and commitment to the ideals of freedom. Grady captivates with his story of Virgil who belies his father’s slaveholding ways, but is unable to escape the truth of race in the world. The pursuit of his “son” Lucas make the journey through the South emotional raw. Fantastic book. Highly recommended.
