The Monk of Mokha by Dave Eggers (41/52)

Caught in the midst of a civil war, Yemeni-American Mokhtar Alkhanshali stayed true to his purpose of bringing Yemeni coffee to the world. The story is unreal and crazy, yet in the hands of Eggers, you can’t turn away. I don’t know anything about coffee, yet I was rapt. Although the history lessons in the first half of the book feel overwrought, by the time Mokhtar is in Yemen you want him to succeed. It is a story about passion, survival and an understanding that our actions can change the world. Delicious read.
