The Home for Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman

There are true stories that you’ve never heard about that should be common knowledge. The basis of this fictional story is one of them. The day Quebec made orphanages into mental institutions is one of those stories. Although mostly a love story of an English girl who falls in love, and gets impregnated, by a French boy. This story is about divides that take years to overcome, lies we tell ourselves, and the knowledge that our parents are flawed. I was completely captured by this story. Highly recommended, though it is at times a little cheesy, i.e. making love in the cornfields.
