Girl Runner by Carrie Snyder (8/52)

Every step of an 800m middle-distance race is hard. Snyder captures the difficulty in the run and the ragged breathe that comes before and after. Splitting the narrative into distinct time periods allows Snyder to capture the beating heart of Aggie. Although the ending feels predictable, I enjoyed the drive within this character even as she faced down physical decrepitude. Dying well is as important as living. I enjoyed this novel from a local writer.
