Educated by Tara Westover (38/52)

How does one survive an anti-government, fundamentalist, no-formal-schooling, bipolar parented, abusive siblings childhood? They get out. Westover explores the chaos of a life in the hills of rural Idaho. I could not put this book down. It was equal parts frightening and compelling. Westover’s meticulous writing and historiography, questioning her memories, testing the limits of her ‘freedom’ are fascinating. The power of faith, the value of education, and the power of parental persuasion are all on display. Brilliant!
